CEPIC 2.0 Manifesto

CEPIC 2.0 Manifesto

CEPIC 2.0 - The Voice of The Global Picture Industry

We all believe that it is the time for CEPIC to change. The European organisation for the picture industry has been in existence for 17 years now.

It has become a strong and well-known organisation worldwide.

CEPIC is an organisation that looks after the interests of its National Members, the picture agencies and the photo-archives of the EU countries.

With the yearly congress since 1995, CEPIC became a central meeting point for agencies from all around the world centred on Europe.

The whole industry has changed completely in the last decades and currently we are operating in a high velocity industry and economy of high velocity change. We have more challenges today than ever before – a global recession has created a much tougher business climate than ever before, at a time where pictures became digital files instead of photographs that we could touch, where price structures have become increasingly diversified, picture content has widened from print to digital and technology has brought about an over supply of content making the competitive landscape even harder.
We have to face this challenge now.

Here is our statement of intent for a change of CEPIC in the following years, which will be followed up by a more detailed strategy document.

OUR GOALS:

Transparency

Transparency will be key and central to our Manifesto. The communication between the president, the committee and the members will be more open in the future. Open communication, open discussion and mutual decisions that will benefit the entire membership. We will outline our communication strategy in more detail, but we intend to harness new technology and create a culture of interactive and easy communication.

Creation of Sub-Committees

All the NAs will have the opportunity to strengthen their involvement with CEPIC as an organisation and take on more proactive work to develop and evolve CEPIC and create an environment where all members can flourish. For example, we propose a yearly meeting of NAs with the committee heads that will take place at the time of the Congress. Sub-committees on subjects such as reorganisation of the CEPIC democracy, orphan works, etc. Priority will be given to videoconferences, chats, email discussions in order to save time and money and to create more efficient exchange of information.

Lobbying

One of the major points for the future development is to strengthen the actions of CEPIC towards the EU institutions, making our actions better planned and more effective. In a first stage, one representative of the CEPIC will participate at the lowest cost to conferences, seminars and meetings organised by the international institutions such as the European Commission and the WIPO and related to the future of the industry, to raise its authority.

Congress

We are proposing a Reorganisation of Congress in order to meet the diversified requirements of the attendants and to ensure that Congress remains relevant going forward. Although important to CEPIC, Congress will not be the main initiative of CEPIC.

The Members

We are proposing to facilitate the integration and exchange of ideas across the Membership – to create a culture of participation. We would like to create an “Artesian Well” environment where all members are encouraged to bubble forward with Ideas to drive CEPIC forward rather than a Fountain where everything flows from the top.

We will encourage the appropriate use of traditional and new media to facilitate an exchange of ideas, pro-activity, thought leadership and play to the strengths of our “Europeaness”.

New Memberships

We want to open the CEPIC membership to all Media Businesses who deal in Content Creation and Licensing [whether that be Stills, Footage, Flash, Audio or other].

We will look to forge alliances with all national organisations of picture agencies and libraries and other media organisations in the world and give them the opportunity to become more closely engaged with CEPIC.

THE FUTURE OF CEPIC:

In one of the toughest times for the world economy and a time of convulsive change for our Industry, we have to develop CEPIC in unison with all its current and future members to be strong, agile, proactive and engaged to manage and determine its own future when faced with both adversity and prosperity.

We seek engagement, transparency and unison so that the CEPIC family is the institution and lynch pin for all the members of the industry and we can be a shining beacon for all.

Our vision for the future is that CEPIC becomes the voice, expert and community of the global content industry.
