This year’s early-bird rate is a greater value than ever. We’ve reduced fees below 2011 prices while delivering the informative sessions, historic venues, networking areas, Wi-Fi, and fine fare that the PACA International Conference is known for.

This year’s new program format will help you streamline your business. The schedule will be split between business and technological tracks, helping attendees to plan their meetings and attend the sessions that best benefit their company. New vendors and PACA Corporate Sponsors will have opportunities to show off their latest technical solutions for stock archives big and small. Our informative sessions will include publisher and buyer panels covering ways to make our work together easier and more efficient.

The stock image market has never been studied at a fully global scale. Our current knowledge about the size and other characteristics of this market depends on the educated guess of experienced business insiders rather than on systematic research.

CEPIC, PACA (Picture Archive Council of America) and the Heidelberg Research Group on the Global Stock Image Market are carrying out the first-ever global survey of the picture industry. This survey includes more than 2,900 stock image agencies and archives worldwide.

The study seeks answers to the following questions:

  • What is the size of the global picture trade?
  • How do picture agencies reach their markets?

ByPACAThe effect of piracy and unauthorized use on media licensing businesses should not be underestimated. As an industry, we face a threat that is hard to measure accurately and even harder to prevent.

But we do know its outcome: loss of revenue and an eroded ability to protect and monetize our creative property. PACA is taking a stand against theft, evangelizing its impact and what we can do to combat it. Weʼre reaching out to our members and sister trade organizations, publishing and publicizing information on piracy, and sharing our findings with representatives in government, especially those focused on trade and copyright. And we need you to join us in this critical fight.

ByUte KrebsThe PACA International Conference was held in New York again this year in October and had its most brilliant educational programme yet. The two days were packed with interesting seminars, all under the heading “The Bigger Picture: New Ideas From The Innovators”.

The first keynote speaker was the Director of Photography at the New York Times Magazine, Kathy Ryan, a very inspirational speaker who gave an overview of the type of photography used in the magazine. They use all types of work, sometimes on assignment, sometimes an organised photo shoot or agency material. It was very heartening to hear her enthusiasm for good photography and willingness to give unusual ideas a try. Her main emphasis when choosing an image or a whole concept was story-telling and it certainly showed in the examples she showed.

BySylvie FodorRichard Levine of Condé Nast made a very interresting presentation at the PACA conference in New York. The presentation highlighted a glamorous iPad magazine with great potential but also the bleak situation of content providers required to provide unlimited free rights.

As vice president of editorial operations at Condé Nast, Richard Levine, has worked on the development of websites and internet editions of the print magazine as well as on the iPad version of WIRED.

Condé Nast produces 18 print magazines and developed early websites versions of the magazines. However, advertising revenues are much lower than in print. "Some people think advertising CPM tend towards zero", said Levine who contended that magazines have made the mistake to go online for free.
