GESAC is lodging a complaint against Spanish law on private copying for not complying with EU law.
The European Grouping of Societies of Authors and Composers (GESAC) submitted today a complaint to the European Commission alleging that the new Spanish Royal Decree on private copying infringes the EU law. GESAC complaints come on support to the already lodged complaint from Spanish right holders.
The new Royal Decree adopted by Spain in December 2011abolished private copying remuneration scheme and fixed the level of the compensation for right holders that is now to be paid by the State Budget, to € 5 million, less than 5% of the compensation previously established.

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of epa european pressphoto agency b.v. beginning its global operation, a collection of the most outstanding epa images spanning the past decade has been compiled as a slide show, also available as an e-book, the agency announced in Frankfurt today.
Our shareholding agencies were well aware of the dramatically increasing importance of visual information and of the strategic requirement to secure their independent news photo supply with exclusive and eternal rights at affordable rates. This is why they decided ten years ago that epa should go global, said Jörg Schierenbeck, epa's President & CEO. Today, epa is one of the leading international news photo agencies - thanks to our highly motivated team around the globe, Schierenbeck added.
