Prison for Pirate Bay
ByJohan FrämstPirate Bay case is over. The Supreme Court decided last Wednesday not to approve the appeal. This means that Fredrik Neij, Peter Sunde, Gottfrid Warg Swartholm and financier Carl Lundström sentenced to between four months and one year in prison, and a single damages of 46 million SEK.
By virtue of this judgment, we will try to act against the nearly 150 illegal file-sharing services that have a Swedish connection. Legal action will be made against all that contribute to crime in different ways, said Henrik Pontén from the Swedish Anti-Piracy Office.
We have reached the road's end in domestic courts, we have reached the legal wall in Sweden. I have to talk to my client if we are to
move on to the European Court. Previously he has said he wants to do that. So it is highly likely that we will, says Per E Samuelsson,
lawyer for the convicted Carl Lundström, financier to the Pirate Bay.
Monique Wadsted, representing the American film companies, is pleased with the Supreme Court 's decision. Now it is quite clear that someone who provides internet access to illegal file sharing services is guilty of an offense that could lead to imprisonment. We anticipate that it will lead to many voluntary shut down of their illegal services and that they ceases to provide internet access to illegal services, says Wadsted.
