World Press Photo Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Founded in 1955, the organization is known for his annual press photography contest wich will take place on the 20-22nd April 2017 in Amsterdam.
A primary objective of the organization is to support professional photojournalism on a wide international scale. It aims to stimulate developments in photojournalism, encourage the transfer of knowledge, help develop high professional standards in visual journalism and promote a free and unrestricted exchange of information.
This 28th january we learnt that Eman Mohammed one of the judges selected to be part of the 2017 Photo Contest general jury canceled her plans to travel to Amsterdam from the United States because of the U.S. government’s executive order restricting the rights of individuals from entry to the United States from select countries.
“Eman Mohammed has been advised by her lawyers that, as a Palestinian, the confusion surrounding the U.S. government’s executive order means she risks being unable to return to her family if she comes to Amsterdam,” according to World Press Photo’s statement on a forced change to the 2017 Photo Contest general jury.
