FOCUS: Creating Value

A full day conference for picture and video professionals

BAPLA Focus returns to an outstanding central London venue for the fourth in its series of sell-out conferences.

Industry Panels:

What Makes a Best-Seller?

Looking at the ways in which agencies add value to imagery to make it more effective for their clients and to enhance an image’s earning power. How much value is inherent in the image and how much is added through editing, technical treatment, captioning, keywording, search grading and marketing?  Considers the needs of different markets; positioning images between rights managed and royalty free, creative and editorial; and looks at specific images to understand why they are best-sellers.

Chaired by Tim Harris (Nature Picture Library, BAPLA Treasurer)

Licensing and Technology: a Borderless Horizon

Blockchain, Generation Z, the future of image licensing: we bring together a group of experts and entrepreneurs to have an in-depth discussion on what opportunities lie ahead. Ideas to integration, how will our industry regenerate itself for the future?  What tools are at agencies & media buyers fingertips? Imagery lies at the heart of the export success of the UK’s creative industries.  How will we carry that forward?

Chaired by Isabelle Doran (Loupe Images, BAPLA Chair)

Copyright: Protecting Value in Uncertain Times

After a round-up of copyright developments in the UK and globally, a panel of legal experts begins to untangle Brexit, giving practical tips on protecting your copyright, trademarks and other IP.  The panel closes with a review of third party rights: when are model or property releases required and how can they be cleared?
