Pieter Broertjes, chairman of World Press Photo foundation’s supervisory board says about the appointment: “Lars Boering is well-known in the photography scene but for World Press Photo he represents new blood, combining continuity with innovation. We believe he is the right person to future-proof the organization and to take it to the next level.”

With over 16 years of management and leadership experience within the cultural, creative and social sectors, Boering has most recently worked to strengthen the representation of the Dutch professional photographers. He has also acted as advisor to photographers internationally, taught at master classes and academies, and has been involved as curator for festivals, museums, publishing houses and other institutions.

He looks forward to taking on the new responsibilities and says:
“I am proud to be able to lead World Press Photo into the near future. There have been many notable predecessors, but I look forward to working together with the fine staff and board—and their great partners—to make the organization flourish. I share World Press Photo’s commitment to photojournalism and documentary photography, and I believe just as strongly in the power and the value of visual storytelling.”

Lars Boering succeeds Michiel Munneke who stepped down as managing director at the beginning of November, after leading the organization for over a decade. Acting managing director Maarten Koets will remain in charge of operations until Boering joins the team in January 2015.
