“Accessible Books: An Important Step on the Path to Literacy”

The International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has the honor to invite members and observer delegations to the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) to a panel discussion titled “Accessible Books: An Important Step on the Path to Literacy” which will take place on December 9th, 2014, during the 29th Session of the SCCR. At this event prominent speakers will reflect upon the importance of the global availability of accessible books in the efforts to ensure literacy for all.

The Accessible Books Consortium comprises an alliance of WIPO, organizations that serve the print disabled, and organizations that represent authors and publishers, and has as its objective the implementation of practical measures to increase the availability of the number of books in accessible formats such as braille, audio and large print.

The panel discussion will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, in the WIPO New Conference Hall at 34, chemin des Colombettes, Geneva, with a cocktail reception following immediately afterwards in the lobby of the WIPO Main Building.
