We are delighted to introduce John Balean as a speaker at the upcoming CEPIC Congress 2024. With three decades of experience in the image licensing industry, John brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the discussion on heritage photography and authenticity.
Currently serving as the Operations Manager at Topfoto, one of Europe’s premier independently owned photographic archives, John plays a pivotal role in preserving and curating a vast collection of historical imagery. His dedication to the field is further evidenced by his leadership as the Chair of PICSEL, a prominent UK collecting society for photographic rights holders.
In addition to his role at Topfoto and PICSEL, John serves as a Consultant at PhotoConsortium, where he contributes to EUreka3D, a pioneering project funded by the EU aimed at the 3D digitisation of Cultural Heritage. Furthermore, John’s editorial contributions, including his role as Editor for the ICA PAAG Guide: Rules For Describing Photographic and Audiovisual Records, exemplify his dedication to promoting best practices and standards within the industry.
Having previously served on the board of BAPLA and the committee of CEPIC, John possesses a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the image licensing sector.
