Michael Collins, IP Creative Licensing, will be speaking at the panel discussion Unlocking Archives with Innovation, Funding and Partnership which is part of the CEPIC Congress. The panel will held at the Martim proArte Hotel in Berlin on 1 June 2018.
Michael worked in Further and Higher Education, as a cultural diplomat with the British Council, and as a charity director, commissioning editor and arts and educational consultant, before embracing information technology. He was an early participant in the digital rights management market and spent several years promoting online projects in publishing and related sectors for the technology plc Business Systems Group.
In 2006 Michael set up i-Publishing Consultants Ltd, which provides both a range of consultancy services and also, designs, delivers and supports technology solutions for clients across a range of sectors. In 2017 i-Publishing won The Stationers’ Company Innovation Excellence Social Development Award for its work on the design and development of an ebooks download application for Calibre Audio Library, a UK charity which provides spoken books for the blind and partially-sighted.
Following the completion in 2015 of a London Fusion-funded Image Discovery themed research project, and the subsequent development of an image licensing demonstration site (www.ronburtonphotographer.com) in collaboration with the Copyright Hub, Digital Catapult, Mirrorpix and Getty Images, i-Publishing recently established a new Creative Licensing business to take this initiative forward.
Having served on its executive committee for five years from 2007-2012, Michael became a special adviser to the British Interactive Media Association with particular reference to the launch of ‘BIMA Digital Day’, a national secondary-level education project. Michael is currently a Mentor on the British Library’s Innovating for Growth programme, a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce and a trustee of the Merton Music Foundation.
