Magdalena Herrera will be taking part in the roundtable discussion on The Challenge of Finding the Right Image. It takes place on Wednesday, June 5th at 16:30 to 17:30.
Née à La Havane d’une famille d’artistes, Magdalena Herrera quitte Cuba enfant pour s’installer à Paris, où elle étudie l’histoire de l’art à la Sorbonne et aux Beaux-Arts avant de commencer sa carrière de directrice artistique. Elle a travaillé dans l’édition et la presse, où elle a passé dix ans en tant que directrice artistique et responsable de la photo au magazine National Geographic France avant de rejoindre Geo France en tant que directrice de la photographie.
Parallèlement à son travail journalistique, Magdalena Herrera enseigne dans des ateliers photo dans le monde entier, dont la Masterclass Joop Swart, organisés par le World Press Photo et des séminaires à Groningen en Hollande et à l’Université Jamia Millia Islamia à New Delhi, en Inde, ainsi que pour la Fokal de (Georges Soros) en Haïti. Elle a enseigné le photojournalisme à Sciences Po Journalisme à Paris.
Son expérience et son regard photographique font qu’elle est régulièrement sollicitée comme membre du jury lors de compétitions internationales de photographie.
Elle était la présidente du jury du World Press Photo en 2018.

Born in Havana to a family of artists, Magdalena Herrera left Cuba as a child to settle in Paris, where she studied art history at the Sorbonne and the Beaux-Arts before beginning her career as artistic director. She worked in publishing and the press, where she spent ten years as artistic director and head of photography at National Geographic France magazine before joining Geo France as director of photography.
In addition to her journalistic work, Magdalena Herrera teaches in photo workshops around the world, including the Joop Swart Masterclass, organized by the World Press Photo and seminars in Groningen, Holland and Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi, India, as well as the Fokal de (Georges Soros) in Haiti. She taught photojournalism at Sciences Po Journalisme in Paris.
Her experience and her photographic eye make her a regular member of the jury at international photography competitions.
She was the president of the jury of the World Press Photo in 2018.
